JRR Tolkien, author of The Hobbit, in his own words

In preparation for the release this weekend of the first of the three Hobbit films, I cannot give you a Hobbit or dwarf themed second breakfast like Denny's, but I can give you links to hear from J.R.R. Tolkien himself.

First here are several interviews with Tolkien: some BBC archived footage, a previously never before broadcast interview shown after his unfinished book, The Children of Hurin, was finished and released,  discussing several things including his popularity in Americaa radio interview on creating Middle Earth, describing why the ring is not an allegory for the atomic bomb, and how he felt to learn and create new languages.

Here is a documentary on Tolkien growing up and the seeds being planted that would later grow into Middle Earth.

Even more intriguing though is to hear Tolkien actually read some of his own work. Here he is reading the "Song of Durin" from The Lord of the Rings.

The greatest thing, perhaps, might be this. If you are a nerd, you might want to sit down. Here is Tolkien reciting the one ring verse.

For those of you who really want to up the nerd ante, here is Tolkien reading a poem ... in Elvish.
